That’s not dirt; they’re paint chips. I’d ask that you to live in denial like I do and pretend that they don’t exist.
I realized that I had almost no photos of my beloved XJ8 that weren’t taken with a potato. Plus, it’s really fun to photograph hood ornaments with a fast lens.

Lol paint chips. The entire front end of my XJ6 is peppered with paint chips.
And the hood doesn’t match but I don’t talk about that.

You can’t use bokeh in the posting title and then not give us the specs on lens, aperture, camera body, et cetera.
Ten yard penalty; fourth down.

It must be a Jag thing. I’ve never had a car that was that prone to getting chips on the hood.

Doh.
Cheapo Nikon f/1.8 35mm prime and my trusty old Nikon D3100 with a viewfinder so filled with Central Asia sand that it’s barely usable.
First photo is 1/1600, f 1.8; second is 1/125 f 1.8; third is 1/320 f 3.2

All of which goes to show that you don’t have to spend a mint on gear if you put your subject in the sweet spot. The focus is good. I have a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 prime that I use on various Canon bodies and the autofocus can be iffy. Some bodies, the 50D and the 7D, for instance, you can calibrate to the lens, which greatly improves the results.
Those are great shots, BTW... Thanks for sharing them.

Link to lens because I have a D3100 with the kit lens and I hate my life.

Thanks!
I’ve had my eye on a Sigma 10mm–20mm lens for a while now, since it’s one of the few wide angles that aren’t hideously expensive.

It’s a remarkably good lens for the price.

Sadly, my camera battery just died and my cars are parked in a way that I can’t fit more than half into frame, so the best I can do is a potato picture from its last wash.

To be fair I’m pretty sure my car has an earl scheib paintjob judging by the amount of runs in it.

I own several Sigma lenses. Hard to beat for the money.

I wouldn’t call that cheap, exactly.

It sort of is by Nikon prices, especially for a fast lens. I think only the 50mm prime is cheaper when it comes to Nikon lenses.
